The Meeting Rooms are primarily for library use. Rooms may be rented to other groups such as civic, cultural, educational, and philanthropic organizations. Religious groups may use room(s) for nonsectarian or interdenominational gatherings. Political groups may use room(s) for non-partisan or bi-partisan programs. The Library reserves the right of first usage of any room.
The Library Director has the authority to grant or refuse permission for use of a room if there is a question as to the objectives and activities of the organization, group, or individual making the request. A group who has reserved a room may be displaced up to two weeks prior to a meeting if the room is needed for a Library function.
Charges for the use of meeting room facilities have been determined by the Library Director with the approval of the Brownsville Public Library Advisory Board and the City Commission. Meeting room charges and fees are listed to the right.
Fees are assessed on two-hour time periods.
Reservations will not be accepted by telephone. The Application Form with all fees and deposits, must be submitted at least one week in advance but no more than ninety (90) days in advance. The representative making arrangements for the meeting room must have a valid library card.
Hours of scheduling shall include the total time involved in the meeting, from the time the organization requires the room for setting up, to the time the room is vacated. No meeting may be scheduled on a City Holiday.
Light refreshments may be served in connection with a meeting room, but in no event shall alcoholic beverages of any kind be served or permitted in the Library. No food preparation will be allowed. The room must be left clean. Notification of cancellation of a room must be made 24 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting or fee will be forfeited.
